Zhu Zhaozhao is a six-thousand-month-old bamboo demon who has spent eight years searching for her missing brother, Zhu Pangui. Her quest leads her to a ruined temple where she encounters Yi Wulu, a closed-door disciple of the Wugou Sect, a prestigious organization of demon hunters. Yi Wulu possesses the jade bamboo ring that belonged to Zhu Pangui, an artifact capable of recording images and sounds. Upon discovering the ring, Zhu Zhaozhao confronts Yi Wulu, attempting to retrieve it by claiming he is her fiancé, a lie she constructs to avoid revealing her true identity as a demon in enemy territory.
