It seems there are mixed reviews, with some acknowledging the book/web novel as a fun escape from reality. The protagonist's overpowered nature and the loving relationships attract readers, even if they find it unrealistic. Many have watched the anime and while they enjoyed it, they criticized the poor CGI. Some haven't read the manga yet but plan to. The point of such stories is to indulge in a fantastical world where the main character's charm can be appealing, and perhaps critics are a bit envious of the idealized life portrayed. Everyone agrees that it's a lighthearted entertainment, after all.

I am disappointed upon discovering the harem tag, as I hadn't anticipated it. Honestly, I can't comprehend why the author believes a harem and romance make a compelling novel combination. To me, a harem often serves as an excuse for a lackluster plot, luring readers with the promise of more characters but delivering shallow storytelling. If possible, I would rate it a solid zero stars.

What I found appealing about this novel was its unique take on the harem genre without fully committing to it. The protagonist's genuine connection with the primary love interest stood out early on, providing a breath of fresh air. Surprisingly, I also found the main female character likable.

However, as the story progressed, when the secondary character's relationship became more intimate, it seemed the author was trying to shoehorn in a typical harem element, almost as if they were急于 reaching the climax. This addition felt forced and detracted from the overall flow, especially considering some parts of the narrative were unnecessarily lengthy. It slightly dampened my enjoyment of the story.

"I only read the main storyline! I believe it's an excellent novel with a harem and an OP main character. However, in the second part, there's an increase in ecchi content, which can be slightly disappointing at times, especially considering how Hajime initially portrayed as a confident and dominant alpha with a harem. He was quite honest and assertive, even showing some protectiveness but also having a playful side with his harem. Unfortunately, the focus shifts more towards harem, ecchi, and other aspects in the later chapters, reducing the alpha moments.

My opinion is quite personal, and perhaps my love for the book grew from being my first novel over a year ago. If you're looking for an OP protagonist armed with modern weapons like guns, rocket launchers, and set in a classic high-fantasy world, this might be your ideal choice. Initially, the first few volumes are delightful and impressive, particularly when you delve into the genuine rationale behind the psychological theme in this web novel. However, as if the author suddenly hit a creative wall, the narrative becomes riddled with cliches, gradually diminishing the positive impression you had, resorting to overused harem humor that eventually numbs the reader's interest and prompts them to lose interest in the story.

I'll make it brief and straightforward. Instead of this book, I recommend reading "The Rising of the Shield Hero." Both Shield Hero and Arifureta share a common theme with protagonists who are initially innocent yet face societal rejection from their peers. Both main characters undergo a significant event that alters their personalities, turning them darker and stronger. However, beyond these parallels, there are notable differences.

In Shield Hero, the protagonist, Naofumi, possesses a distinct personality, evolving from an edgy teenager who acts impulsively and rejects others, save for his harem, without a clear goal. On the other hand, the Arifureta protagonist, Nagumo, lacks a defined character arc and often acts on impulse with no clear direction.

While I enjoyed the first volume of Arifureta, my appreciation waned as the protagonist's behavior became unbearable for me. It's a shame that such a promising start couldn't be sustained.

This narrative begins with the main character being betrayed and plunged into a treacherous dungeon, his sole objective being survival. However, as the challenges become less daunting, he loses his memories and grows complacent. Any thoughts of revenge fade, replaced by a disinterest in everything except his own well-being. His appearance changes, with white hair and a sleek black outfit, complete with a trench coat. Bored with his mundane existence, he decides to conquer every formidable dungeon, seeking reasons to aid others (even if the motives are flimsy), adopting a melodramatic teenager's stance on refusing help while going above and beyond to assist them. Along the way, an unintended harem forms, despite his lack of personality and seemingly cool exterior. In these dungeons, there's an absence of tension as he casually converses with his companions. When he encounters old acquaintances, his claimed detachment gives way to genuine surprise and concern. The entire story reeks of "SOA," a book symptomatic of a broader issue in Japan's light novel scene. Many readers have limited exposure to quality literature, encouraging authors to churn out numerous subpar novels catering to base instincts due to their ease of production.

It's a humorous take on a typical Japanese novel, where the protagonist triumphs over the world not within the usual 10-year timeframe as seen in Chinese stories, but an astonishing 1 year! An 17-year-old conquers the entire world that quickly –Wow, that's even more extreme than Chinese novels. The fact that the story is condensed to just a year makes it feel like the 'real' narrative is yet to come, and the first part turns into a joke. I'm curious how the character effortlessly conquers the intricate magical realms of the gods, almost too easily and without any significant accomplishments.

In summary, if you're willing to overlook logic and common sense, this novel might be your cup of tea. However, do not dwell on the time spent in the other world, as it becomes a comedic aspect.

The book is decent but not extraordinary; its tone shifts frequently throughout the series. If you initially expect a dark fantasy, prepare for a surprise as it isn't as dark as initially portrayed. Despite this, it can still be a pleasant read for those looking to pass the time and appreciate the author's creative prowess and vivid world-building. One aspect that stands out is the well-crafted descriptions of the setting and lore, which enhance the overall experience.

Nonetheless, let me share my thoughts. I suggest starting with the first volume of the novel. Unlike many other 'otherworld' stories, it stands out as unique. The protagonist's journey is captivating, drawing you in with its dark elements (graphic but not overly disturbing). The early struggles and battles make you feel the gravity of the situation for him.

The first volume is universally praised and definitely worth a read. However, after that point, the series takes a different turn. It leans towards a clichéd harem/romantic comedy with fight scenes resembling One Punch Man but involving firearms. If you have ample free time and enjoy such fare, you might find something to entertain you here, but proceed with caution!

Hence, I give the first volume a solid 4 or 5 out of 5 stars. As for the subsequent volumes, my rating would be a staggering -9000 out of 5.
