Xu Zhengyang is a young man living in Baicheng, a desolate industrial suburb, who inherits his family's abandoned lumber processing factory. On October 8, 2725, he is contacted by a mysterious "Doomsday Survival System" that informs him of an impending apocalypse one year in the future, characterized by biochemical crises, nuclear fallout, and a new Ice Age. The system offers a series of quests with tangible rewards, beginning with the task to find a safe house. This confirmation leads him to realize the apocalypse is real and begins his extensive preparation.

Over the following months, Xu Zhengyang systematically completes a sequence of main and side quests to fortify his survival capabilities. He gathers food and water to unlock the Detection skill, which allows him to view the attributes and composition of objects and people. He then repairs the factory walls to gain the Handicraft skill and builds a greenhouse to receive a GX-1 Engineering Robot, a multi-armed construction unit that accelerates his building projects. The narrative concludes with Xu Zhengyang entering a virtual challenge realm to test his newly acquired combat skills against zombies, successfully clearing the trial and solidifying his readiness for the coming catastrophe.
