very much enjoying this book precisely bc Ella, aside from being smart, acts smart, as well. She doesn't behave like a hysterical, dumb female when faced with an emotional dilemma. Some stories are written w/absurd difficulties where the female protagonist acts stupidly & hysterically w/out reason.
