But for real though the anime was really really sh*tty in later episodes of season 1, if I remember correctly in the anime he also fought against the goblin king but in the novel his role was with the newbies and what you should read this novel for: seeing the slimes usefulness! From what I also remember (read this like 2 years+ ago) the anime rushed so many things that it lost touch with what happened in the novel.
Still I have to say that it is very painful to accompany this novel as there are chapters that are turned into like 5 different parts that are really tiny which made me drop this... I mean the content is great but it gets annoying having to wait for chapters that aren't even the full thing.
