I think the author said that so that we could see that even though Wei Lou loved her aunt.. she was always missing her mom.. like you said she was already a teenager so while she respected and appreciated her aunt.. she was already looking out for her twin.. plus she has all these doubts of how people would have behaved after she went missing in last life.. the love that she shows for her twin is more maternal than sisterly..
