Shi Ruyi ordered Su Linjing to receive thirty lashes as punishment for his derogatory remarks about the Crown Princess. Twenty-nine lashes were given in the courtyard while Su Linjing was wearing heavy clothes, and he fainted after twenty-nine strokes. The thirtyth lash was implied as part of the total punishment. Su Linjing was then carried back to the Prime Minister's Residence.
