The case in which Shi Yan's father confined, abused, beat, killed, and burned his wife (Shi Yan's mother) in their villa basement. The body was dismembered. Seven-year-old Shi Yan witnessed the entire event after following his father downstairs. The mother had little social circle and her family lived far away, which allowed the crime to potentially remain hidden.
