A simple spinning tool made by Yu Yan from a piece of beast bone (spindle) with a round hole and a carved stick (spindle shaft). Yu Yan used it to spin the processed kudzu bast into thin white thread by holding the grooved end up, letting the bone hang vertically, and spinning it while pulling thread from the kudzu bundle. The thread was then wound around the stick to form a spool.
