A device to manually spread sand on rails to increase friction between wheels and rails, preventing wheel slip on wet or smooth rails. Lin Qiaozhi suggested this based on her dream knowledge. Engineer Lu recommended testing it on a decommissioned locomotive first. It would be especially useful when climbing grades, on wet rails, and during emergency braking.
