A principle Lu Dantao used to explain the phenomenon in the river. Well water comes from underground rivers with different dissolved substances and higher density than surface river water. In this case, the underground current passed through salt deposits, making the well water layer less dense than the human body, causing corpses to remain submerged until decomposition gas made them float.
