During a stormy night, Lai Lao'er broke into Zhong Yizhu's room, pinned him down, and attempted to assault him. Lai Lao'er intended to ruin Zhong Yizhu's reputation and force him into marriage. Zhong Yizhu fought back by stabbing Lai Lao'er's neck with an embroidery needle. Sun Yun-niang then struck Lai Lao'er unconscious with a clay pot. They later dragged his body into the forest and pushed him down the slope to prevent rumors.
