A system proposed by Zhao Xin with eight categories for selection: civil officials, military officers, Imperial Consort Kin, and the imperial clan. Eight companions were selected to accompany Zhao Xin in his studies half a month later. These companions, chosen from children of similar ages, would form extraordinary bonds and could become future Grand Councilors and faction leaders to help stabilize the court upon succession.
