Discarded folk storybooks scattered across the daybed, writing desk, and floor in Cheng Huan Palace. Most were adaptations of romantic tales between men and women, with one exception about a lowly soldier's rise to fame on the frontier. Shen Yuan had Sheng Yiren bring all popular storybooks from the capital to study.
