The interview task assigned by Principal Yuan where candidates had forty minutes to write out their plans for managing and educating the children of Class 2, Grade 2 at the military district elementary school. Candidates were evaluated on handwriting, sentence structure, originality, and educational philosophy. Essays advocating corporal punishment were rejected. Ning Qiao essay was praised for showing the most original thinking with beautiful handwriting and smooth prose.
