An elderly man who dresses in white morning exercise attire and carries a fan. He frequently wanders around the park and once played chess with Qiao Ling in the red pavilion earlier that spring. He is cheerful, sharp-eyed, and tried to set Qiao Ling up with his old friend's handsome grandson, but was politely declined. He is surprised to learn that Qiao Ling is the daughter Qiao Hai raised.
