Also referred to as Professor Zhu, he is Chen Fangping's husband. He was a specialist from a major hospital in Shanghai and is now a labor-reform bad element kept in the cattle shed. He is weak and dying, suffering from illness. During the Cultural Revolution, his wife and children all died of illness. After rehabilitation, he was left alone and adopted Xu Hui as his goddaughter.
