The fifteenth emperor of the Ming Dynasty, who reigned during the Tianqi era (1621-1627). He ascended the throne at age sixteen and was essentially a puppet emperor. He relied on eunuchs, was obsessed with carpentry and woodworking, neglected state affairs, and died in the Palace of Heavenly Purity at age twenty-three. The underground caves may be related to him.
