Magistrate of Jishui County by the Barren Sea. He receives a dream visit from Goddess Canglang (Zhuoying) who bestows a thousand taels of gold to relieve disaster. He digs up the gold beneath a banana tree in the front courtyard and implements policies to accommodate refugees, including assigning them to learn woodworking or farm, and repairing Canglang Temple. He is diligent and initially skeptical but becomes a devout worshipper.
