Jiang Li's husband, a handsome young man who became an officer in the army. He is the youngest son of Old Madam Zhou. He joined the army to save food for the family and was promoted to deputy battalion commander early in the story. He sends five yuan every month to the old house for Mother's retirement and food money. He has only come home twice in all these years, and those visits resulted in the birth of his two sons.
