The deceased husband of Tang Wanshu (Mrs. Tang). He was a tall, reserved, and emotionally distant man who never said 'I love you' but showed deep love through actions. During the Tangshan earthquake on July 28, 1979, he instinctively shielded Tang Wanshu with his body as debris rained down, holding her tightly and keeping her awake with conversation until he died from his injuries. His bones were crushed by rocks and his organs bled internally. He is remembered fondly in Tang Wanshu's fragmented memories.
