Father Zhao, the brigade accountant and Lin Siya's father-in-law. He is initially strict but grows to appreciate Lin Siya's diligence and education. He considers promoting her to accountant someday. He favors his daughter over his daughter-in-law after hearing praise for Lin Siya. He makes household decisions and enforces the rule that those who do not work do not eat.
