Also referred to as Old Man Zhao or Father Zhao, he is Zhao Ruhua's father. He sits waiting anxiously at home for his daughter's return. He is concerned about Zhao Ruhua's large belly and the potential for difficult labor. He invites a physician to examine her and suggests having Madam Hu move in to help care for her.
