Also known as Zhao Lao and Hall Master. A male Taoist priest originally from a mountain temple, self-taught in medicine. He is Meng Anran's former master who took her in at age seven after recognizing her talent during a flood disaster relief effort. He built Elegant Hall with resources from people he helped. He has a sharp tongue but a soft heart, despises arrogant wealthy people, and initially refused to treat them. He forgave Meng Anran after she knelt in the rain for over two hours but decided to act as though he never took her as a disciple since their paths had diverged. He agreed to go to Country A to treat Qin Mu's parents.
