A seventeen-year-old unemployed young man living in the capital, born in the 1950s. He never went to the countryside despite the Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside policy. His street did not arrange work for him. He reads Chu Taohua Village at the Xinhua Bookstore and is deeply moved by the story. After reflecting on his parents' hardships and the pioneers' sacrifices, he resolves to go to the countryside and border areas, and writes a letter to the Publishing House.
