A former top scholar and Grand Canal Governor from the previous reign. After the Yuzhou dam collapse, he threw himself into the river with his wife out of fear of punishment. He left behind a son and daughter to beg in the streets of Yuzhou. His daughter became Xu Songnian's wife and later Zhang Yao's sister-in-law.
