Ye Meng (also referred to as Ye Mengyi) is the central female character and the sister-in-law of the Lu family. She is highly intelligent, resourceful, and skilled at planning and management. In this chapter, she takes charge of planning the construction of two courtyards with blue brick and tiled houses, creating detailed blueprints for the houses and furniture. She calculates all expenses meticulously, coming up with a total budget of 213 taels plus reserves. She teaches Lu Yushu arithmetic and literacy, and plans for Lu Qingsong's education. She is also instrumental in finding an embroidery master for Lu Qingshuang. She is described as thoughtful and caring, having prepared a room specifically for her married aunt Lu Yunxue. She is the de facto leader of the family's development plans.
