Also known as Master Yao, he is the head of the Yao family and Yao Jibai's father. He is a powerful grain merchant who controls the food supply for all of Yixian. He initially tried to suppress his anger upon seeing Han Mu's distinguished appearance but later realized Han Mu might have been exiled to Yixian. He led nearly a hundred people to the county office to demand the return of his steward. He was arrogant and dismissive of Han Mu's authority, threatening him with potential 'accidents' during the flood crisis. He was shocked upon learning of Han Mu and Gu Junruo's noble backgrounds.
