Also known as Magistrate Yang, a young county magistrate and third-ranked scholar in the imperial examinations of the twenty-eighth year of Great Jin. He is idealistic but inflexible and stubborn. He refused the Ninth Princess's romantic advances claiming he had a fiancée, which led to his demotion from Hanlin Academy to Liu'an. He is described as a good official who works for the people but is not very clever. He took on over a hundred cases in six months and was once beaten within an inch of his life.
