Yan Congnan, also known as Old Man Yan, is Yan Xiaoyue's father. He is a village bricklayer who built almost every house in the village. He is initially reluctant to help his children financially, claiming they have no money left. He had his own plans and was unwilling to let his daughter marry into a family of lower social standing. However, he is surprised when Yan Xiaoyue offers him a share in the family business. He is married to Mu Fangru and is the father of Yan Heng, Yan Shu, and Yan Xiaoyue.
