Xue San, also known as Third Master, is a villainous figure who controls the grain trade in the area around the southern city. He is described as thin as a monkey and hunched over, looking every bit the villain. He pressures He Dayou's grain warehouse, demanding they either relocate immediately or transfer all operations to him. He is arrogant and makes inappropriate comments about Jiang Shiyao when he discovers she is a woman, claiming that no one can open shop without his permission and without burning incense for him. His lackeys refer to him respectfully and are amused by his interactions with Jiang Shiyao. He is contrasted with Rouge from the Spring Flower Pavilion in terms of beauty.
