Xin Guoping is Xin Qi's father, a quiet, honest man who works in a workshop alongside Ye Shunbiao. The two men are rivals, and their wives, Li Huilan and Wang Fengying, do not get along. Xin Guoping tries to mediate family conflicts, such as when Li Huilan scolds Xin Qi. He dotes on his grandson Haohao and suggests Xin Qi sleep in his youngest son's bed, but yields to Li Huilan's favoritism. He soaks his feet at night and helps organize groceries.
