Shu Lan's father, a Right Chancellor who rose from a poor scholar to the rank of Second Place Scholar with help from Lady Zhou (Shu Lan's mother). He divorced and essentially destroyed Lady Zhou to marry his mentor's daughter. He despises Shu Lan and treats her worse than a servant. Shu Lan suspects he orchestrated her mother's death.
