An ordinary farmer, the second son who was unloved by his parents. He married Xiaotao's mother at twenty despite her cursed reputation. He works hard in the fields and indulges his pregnant wife. He agrees with his wife's plan to sell Xiaotao to wealthy families, viewing it as her filial duty to help feed her mother and unborn brother. He gives Xiaotao ten copper coins for candy before the trip to the county town.
