Xiang's mother
The mother of Xiang Wenshan, Xiang Wensi, and Xiang Wen'er. She is devastated upon reading her daughter's letter about the marriage to a rural villager. She cries and expresses anger and disbelief at her daughter's recklessness. She worries that her daughter may have been dazzled by sweet words and fooled by honeyed promises. She reads letters from Song Zhaohua and notes that his handwriting is steady and neat. She uses a knife to open the package sent by her daughter. She finds dealing with Xiang Wen'er exhausting and gives up on scolding him.
