A girl the same age as Chenyue who had been in the second grade before. She lived with her mother but was not allowed to go to school because her mother needed her to help gather supplies. She was thin and a little dark, quiet and sensible, always doing housework out of fear her mother would dislike her. Her eyes lit up when she heard about the free school but she obediently agreed with her mother's refusal.
