The Chief of the Imperial Astronomical Bureau who reported celestial phenomena to the Emperor. He observed red gas in the northern skies resembling a mat, known as red qi or the cracking of the heavens. He suggested it was a bad omen and recommended selecting a consort for the Duke of Ding to resolve the issue.
