Wu Jianfei
Wu Jianfei, also known as Uncle Wu, is Chen Qian's widowed husband and the father of Big Ya and Little Ya. He is described as honest and simple, but also cowardly and passive, especially in the face of his mother's dominance. Throughout the story, he has been used as a scapegoat for the conflicts between his mother and his wife. After Chen Qian's death, he puts on a perfect act of grief but is revealed to be complicit in the abuse of his children through his silence. He has been kept at home by his mother while his younger brother was sent to school and given opportunities. For the first time, he begins to show resentment and a desire to fight for what is rightfully his, particularly when it comes to the job offer that could improve his and his daughters' lives.
