A carpenter and one of the three middle-aged men hired to work on Zeng Yan's stone house. He is skilled in carpentry and sympathetic toward Zeng Yan. He misunderstood her gift of sea urchins, thinking she had hit her head, and gently explained that sea urchins (called horse-dung eggs) are typically used to feed ducks rather than eaten.
