The thin leader is the officer in charge of a group of five or six soldiers dressed in red clothes who come to the Wang family's house searching for a wanted criminal. He carries a crumpled portrait for identification purposes. He roughly examines both Su Huai and Lu Yuan, checking their faces and demanding they remove their clothes. He is authoritative and impatient but is eventually bribed with silver ingots and New Year provisions, after which he dismisses the family and leaves with his soldiers.
