Also known as Madam Su, she was the birth mother of Ruan Tianxin and the only daughter of Su Shang, a top merchant in the capital. She married into the Ruan family but died within a year after Song Yiqiu went to the frontier. Her health was never robust, and Song Yiqiu suspects she may have been chronically poisoned. She was gentle, spoke softly, and carried a pleasant scent of medicine.
