Sheng Yong's father and Sheng Weixia's grandfather. He is concerned about his son's future, particularly about Sheng Yong getting a wife and settling down properly. He disapproves of Sheng Yong's refusal to work at the local mine where a team leader position is available. During a family uproar, he compares Sheng Weixia to a white-eyed wolf (an ungrateful person), saying she was raised for eighteen years yet does not care about her father. This angers Sheng Yong, who defends his sister and retorts that raising a child the way Sheng Dahao did is worse than raising a cat or dog, calling Sheng Dahao's own daughter the real white-eyed wolf.
