Male supporting character, the head of the commune's brick kiln. He was badly injured and near death until Yang Dai's father carried him to the hospital for emergency treatment. After recovering, he repaid the favor by using his position to arrange Yang Dai's father's job at the kiln and secretly promised to help make him a permanent worker, though this was never fulfilled after twenty years. He is expected to retire soon but no date has been set.
