Also known as Mother or Madam, she is the wife of Ruan Jiading and mother of Mi Niang. At twenty-four or twenty-five, she is slender with pale skin, wearing a duck-egg green pipa-style jacket. She is gentle, skilled in cooking and needlework, and manages the household with diligence. Though outwardly delicate, she possesses inner wisdom and strategy, as seen when she orchestrates the breaking of Ruan Ping'er's engagement to preserve the ancestral home. She relies on embroidery work for income after her husband leaves for the academy.
