The head of household in Taohua Village and Qingqing's father. He wears old-fashioned faded blue patched clothing indicating poverty. He grew up before the founding of New China, fled to Taohua Village to escape heavy taxes and warlord oppression, and lived in seclusion for decades. He is moved to tears after visiting a school and seeing children studying. He eventually decides to leave the village with Li Maochang and Qingqing.
