He desired Concubine Su for her beauty and kept her as his concubine despite grandly marrying another lady. He rode day and night without rest to see her when he heard she was ill, disregarding his own grave injuries. Upon learning of her death, he spat blood and collapsed from grief, rage, exhaustion and untreated wounds, and died shortly after.
