A 36-year-old Commander of the Imperial Guards. He is extremely unlucky, having outlived three successive wives earning him the reputation of a wife-jinx. He repeatedly failed civil service examinations and took military exams as a detour but couldn't transfer back to civil post. Despite being a scholar, he is tall and powerfully built with imposing presence. He travels incognito with the emperor and lost his jade pendant at the Prince's Residence.
