He is a heavy drinker who has sunk into madness and drunkenness after the heroine Bai Xiqing's marriage. In the original story, he helped the heroine rise to power out of love, later turned tyrannical, and eventually gave up everything including the throne. In the side story, he was used by the heroine and died for her sake three months after her marriage. He is Wen Ruan's father. He has powerful lineage and was once the Emperor's favorite, but lost favor due to his devotion to Bai Xiqing and refusing to use dirty tricks.
