A rugged military officer whom the original Qiao Zhenzhu was forced to marry by her father to repay a supposed life-saving debt. He and the original Qiao Zhenzhu conceived on their wedding night. He later chased after her to Shanghai after her death, found only her unmarked grave, built her a proper tomb, and returned to the army heartbroken.
