Qiao Manyu is the wife of Qiao Jiacheng and daughter-in-law of Qiao Youfu and Zhang Shi. She is described as doting on her daughter Qiao Huanhuan, rarely letting her do any work and still removing fish bones for her at eight years old. She is generous and gives meat to her eldest son, saving at least two jin especially for them. After the visit, she reflects that her brother's family (Qiao Mancang's household) is doing much better now, noting that people only become generous when they have money. She is perceptive and sees through polite modesty about their financial situation.
